Back in the days Zanzibar was famously dubbed by East African locals as “Kasiwa cha marashi ya karafuu”meant clove scented island. The atmosphere of many places on the island was charmed by such aroma as the cloves were on drying process in the streets.Nutmeg, Cardamom, Vanilla, cinnamon and cloves were all exported from Zanzibar to the world hence “the spice island”.
Spice tour is a walking guided tour which offers an insight of spices into a farm and discover the nature of them from the source weather is a fruit,vines,rhizomes or plants all can be discovered and learn about their properties and their general uses in terms of food seasoning or natural medicenes.The trip gives you a privilege to taste seasonal fruits and spice tea while experiencing a local funny climber climbing a high coconut tree singing local songs and have you taste a young of coconut.
Expected seasonal spices to see are ginger, cardamom, cloves, vanilla, lemon grass, pepper, turmeric, and cinnamon, nutmeg and more, however it depends on the season of your visit.It is possible to buy the spices at the farm since there is a small shop contains most of the spices and product many buy spices and flower such as scented oil and soap.
