Nyerere National Park (Former Selous Game Reserve)
Nyerere National Park was established in 2019 which is part of what was known as Selous Game Reserve.
The name of the Park is given in honor of the founder of the Nation, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere. The Park covers an area of over 30,000 square kilometers, less than an hour by light aircraft from Dar as Salaam. Remote and wild, Nyerere offers a variety of exclusive and professional run safari options; by foot, boat, or vehicle.
With its largest wilderness area in Africa, Nyerere National Park has relatively undisturbed ecological and biological processes, including diverse wildlife with significant predator and prey relationships.
The might Rufiji with its renowned population of hippo and Rhino flows to Indian Ocean. The river has been designed as a photographic zone and is a popular tourist destination.
The sheer volume of game in the Nyerere is just outstanding!
Elephants, buffalo and lion are found in greater numbers and the park together with remaining part of Selous has the last true stronghold for African wild dog.
Â
July to October could be pin-pointed as the best time of year to visit the Nyerere National Park as it is a classic dry season destination.
Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park is the 4th largest National Park in Tanzania with an with an area of 3230 sq km.The park is surrounded by an arc of mountains and protected land, with the Uluguru Mountains to the east, the Mbesera,Madzini and Mazunyungu hills to north and west. Perhaps due to the shadow cast by these mountainous areas, Mikumi is renowned as having the most fabulous light and color, making it a favorite with wildlife and safari photographers, both professional and amateur. The landscape is divided into two by a road and it seems that the partition separates 2 distinct environments. The north west of the park is characterized by alluvial plains, baobabs, acacias and palms while the south east of the park is less accessible and not as popular with wildlife, because of its accessibility Mikumi is one of the most popular National Park in Tanzania. The park is endowed with spectacular concentration of wildlife which are rarely seen in other parks like magnificent Sable antelope, African hunting dog, blue wildebeest, Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and others.
The gentle foothills and vast miombo woodland savanna in the southern parts of the park are quite spectacular.
Ruaha National Park
Ruaha National Park is the third largest national park in Tanzania, it is a remote bastion of spectacular wilderness, undisturbed wildlife and breath-taking scenery also combines well with the Nyerere National Park. A major attraction here is the fact that it is one of the least visited parks offering a personal and private safari experience.Ruaha offers one of the largest populations of elephant in any African park and vast open areas are teeming with antelopes and buffalos followed by the predators especially lions and potentially leopards as well as African hunting dogs and numerous giraffes and zebras.
Other key animals can be found in Ruaha National Park are Giant Gazelles,Giraffes,Ostriches,Striped hyenas, greater and lesser kudus, crocodiles and hippos mainly in Ruaha River.
